This Cute Brunswick Cottage Has A Very Special Place In TDF's History - And It's For Sale

On The Market

As Melbourne slowly (very slowly) returns to some sort of ‘normal’, the real estate industry is back in action… which means the return of our insanely popular ‘On The Market’ column!

Today, we’re kicking off with an extra special find.

If this sweet two bedroom home in Brunswick looks a little familiar, that’s because you have probably seen it before. Formerly, this quaint weatherboard cottage was the first home of our very own editor Lucy (and her partner Gordy) – and, it’s on the market again!

Well I must admit, when I saw this real estate listing pop up, it did tug at the heartstrings a bit! That’s because this sweet weatherboard cottage in Brunswick was, in fact, my first home! I lived here from 2007 until 2014, and boy, did I love this little house.

Though compact in size, this house packs a punch. It’s a freestanding Victorian, with windows all down one side, which means heaps of natural light, year round.

When Gordy and I lived here, we made quite a few updates. We built a new kitchen and bathroom, added lots of storage – but the biggest thing, was building the free standing studio out the back – aka, the original home of The Design Files! Looking out into the courtyard, this is where I would sit everyday, tapping away at my laptop, in the early days of TDF. The studio also has its own walk in robe and ensuite with shower – so it doubles as a bright and roomy second bedroom.

In my (biased) opinion, the house is smack bang in the BEST part of Brunswick – just 5 minutes walk from the bars and restaurants of Lygon st, aswell as Mediterranean Wholesalers and Sydney Road IGA (if you know, you know).

What can I say… this house will always hold a special place in my heart – could it be YOUR perfect pad, too?

See the full listing for 12 Nash Street, Brunswick here! The home is being sold by Carl Sacco and Peter Stephens at Nelson Alexander via virtual auction on Saturday October 24 at 11.00am.
