This WOW-Factor Penthouse Apartment In Fitzroy’s Former Confectionary Factory Is For Sale!

On The Market

If Fitzroy were an apartment, it would probably be this converted warehouse in a former confectionary factory that’s just hit the market!

Located at 46/183 Kerr Street, this two-storey penthouse in the MacRobertson building is smack bang between Brunswick and Smith streets.

We can’t decide on our favourite feature of this exceptional inner city pad – is it the heritage character of this iconic building, the slick architect-designed interior renovation… or those epic (heritage-protected) views!? We’ll let you decide!

As Melbourne’s first suburb, Fitzroy is home to some truly historic properties.

One of the most prominent is the former MacRobertson confectionery factory, which occupies several buildings between Argyle and Rose streets. The factory began operations in the 1880s and at one point was the largest confectionery manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere. The business was eventually taken over by Cadbury in 1967, then converted into apartments in the 1990s.

46/183 Kerr Street may just be the best dwelling of the entire former factory. Originally two separate apartments, an architect-designed renovation has combined the two into one 300 square metre penthouse, positioned in the quietest corner of the building. The current owner has since undertaken their own renovations, in conjunction with architect Andrew Simpson and BSG Constructions.

The owner describes the lower floor of the apartment as ‘three large hotel rooms’, all of which have their own en suite, and two with a private lounge and study area. Upstairs contains a second living room with a bar, and a new kitchen opening to the incredible outdoor deck. The property also offers seriously impressive northern and easterly views, original industrial features, three-car basement parking, and a lift.

Features the owner says he’ll miss the most about this home are its New York feel, industrial authenticity, security, and privacy… all within a vibrant, diverse and artistic local community.

Original warehouse apartments of this calibre don’t come up every day, so if you’re in the market, this is definitely work a snoop!
