Modernist Australia

This House By Seidler's First Apprentice Is On The Market

An epic open-plan gem in Turramurra is up for grabs (or inspiration deriving/simply curious snooping if you don’t have a six-figure budget just yet!).

Designed by architect Don Gazzard, Harry Seidler’s first apprentice, in the iconic ‘Sydney School’ style, the abode was built in 1964. In 2018, it’s become one of Modernist Australia’s favourites!

From retro ramblers in Western Australia to Melbourne Bayside pedigree to today’s home… though we at Modernist Australia puff along a rapidly spinning wheel of homes to feature, we are kept exhilarated and astounded by the breadth and variation found in our Australian Modern taxonomy!

Here, we make a pit-stop once again to one of our favourite junctures: The Sydney School.

This sun-dappled, eucalypt-scented hideout in bush ‘burb heartland is the work of the mid-century modern luminary Don Gazzard (c.1964). It will be slaying all with its preserved originality, brilliant yet self-effacing design, and deference to the natural world above ALL else.

Such an earthy focus within elegant design is a particularly enticing balm for those burned out by the slog, speed and unending din of our current world. Surrender to the stillness here!
