Your First Look At The New Mirka Mora X Gorman Collaboration

Shopping

In case you hadn’t noticed, we’re pretty huge fans of Mirka Mora around here. Since her passing at the age of 90 in August this year, the entire art community and beyond have been spending time reflecting on Mirka’s extensive body of work and profound influence. It seems a fitting time for Gorman to announce the imminent arrival of their most recent collaboration with the iconic Australian artist.

Following an unprecedented response to their first Mirka Mora collection in 2016, this current range has been in development at Gorman for over a year, and it drops this Friday!

‘I have a particular passion for Mirka’s naive style… she infiltrates a glorious, fascinating dimension that most of us cannot reach.’ – Lisa Gorman.

The limited-edition Mirka Mora X Gorman collection is the local fashion house’s second creative partnership with the legendary artist, comprising five pieces of apparel and six accessories developed from four original artworks painted by Mirka.

For Gorman’s creative director and founder, Lisa Gorman, the opportunity to work with Mirka on these two collections has undoubtedly been a career highlight. ‘I have a particular passion for Mirka’s naive style, the cheekiness and other-worldliness she exhibits in her work, the scenes of nature between earth and heaven, devils and angels, and the mystical creatures that she’s created in between,’ she tells, ‘…She infiltrates a glorious, fascinating dimension that most of us cannot reach.’ Mirka’s free-spirited nature is even echoed in the bohemian flow of the collection.

Coming soon after the release of the book Mirka and Georges: A Culinary Affair, co-authored by Heide Museum of Modern Art’s Artistic Director Lesley Harding and Senior Curator Kendrah Morgan, this latest collaboration release from Gorman coincides with Heide’s upcoming exhibition of drawings and dolls from Mirka’s personal archives, Mirka Mora: Pas de Deux—Drawings and Dolls, opening this Saturday.Mirka is a beloved and central figure in Australia’s cultural life and has long captured the public imagination with her distinctive art and inimitable personality,’ says Heide’s Artistic Director Lesley Harding, ‘This exciting collaboration with Gorman helps us bring Mirka’s remarkable work to the next generation of art lovers.’

The full collection launches in Gorman stores and online this Friday 26th October, and a selection of styles will be available at the Heide gift store from Saturday 27th October, 2018. Don’t miss your chance to own a wearable piece inspired by one of Australia’s greatest artists!

For your chance to win a Mirka Mora x Gorman pack consisting of a tote bag, silk scarf and pair of earrings , head over to our Instagram and tell us in 25 words or less  what you think makes Mirka’s work so special!
