Though we’ve been aware of Perth based Glosswood‘s impressive range of timber lining boards for a little while, just this month marks the release of their latest range, which really pushes the product into new territory! From striking herringbone configurations to a four-profile spotted gum lining board which channels mid century styling, it’s a bold new direction for this dynamic family business.
‘This project came about as a collaboration’ says business co-owner Pam Thomson. ‘Local stylist Anna Flanders and I sat down one morning and were chatting about the versatility of our prefinished lining boards. We came up with the idea of creating a new series of wall panels which responded directly to current trends, such as herringbone, shibori-style colour washes, and mid century interiors’.
The finished product range is very much a collaborative effort. After workshopping the initial concept with Anna Flanders, Pam invited Perth based interior designer Chloe Gordini to flesh out the ideas and draw the designs to scale, whilst local artist Annabel Dixon was invited to work on one of the walls – the raw paulownia – to create a bespoke finish.
As with all pre-finished boards, one major drawcard of Glosswood’s range is they are all created sealed and ready to use, with a tongue-and-groove profile, so they are super simple to install and require no sanding or finishing after installation. They’re also incredibly versatile – suitable on walls, ceilings and even on cabinetry. (They’re not, however, suitable for floors! The lightweight paulownia timber is exclusively used for decorative finishes, and is not designed to be used as flooring).
Glosswood timber lining boards are sold through national timber resellers, including Bunnings. Prices start at $72 per square metre.
