You might recall for our very first Open House event in 2011 (wooooahh that seems like a LONG time ago now!) we introduced the work of Melbourne-based designer Charlotte Swiden, who designs a gorgeous little range of illustrated homewares under the name Swiden Designs. The range includes printed trays, cutting boards and coasters, colourful kitchen bits including mugs and teatowels, as well as her sweet 'TIVOLIVAT' timber decorative pieces which have been super popular. Charlotte has Scandinavian roots which is why many of her designs have friendly IKEA-esque names, however DON'T BE FOOLED - The entire range is designed right here in Melbourne!
We're loving Charlotte's latest cheerful creations - the 'Coast' range of prints and wall hangings, available in various sizes. Based on four of Charlotte's original paintings, they're printed locally by Melbourne digital textile printing specialists Frankie & Swiss.
'I like to explore new mediums and formats and it felt like it was time to make something big, something that would make a real impact in a space' explains Charlotte when asked how this new range came about. 'At the same time I was in the process of printing some fabric with Frankie & Swiss. They were fantastic to work with and that triggered and sparked new possibilities'.
Charlotte is hoping to create a Coast inspired rug later this year - VERY COOL! Also on her 'to do list' is a range of kids doona covers, a mural for a cafe and wall paper design... ooh la la, such great ideas - watch this space!
Swiden's Coast range is available in a range of sizes and formats including cards, framed giclée prints and wall hangings, pictured here in the medium size. They can be purchased directly from Charlotte's online shop or at Craft Victoria.
