There is a LOT to love about SA-based design duo Daniel – Emma (aka Daniel To and Emma Aiston). They’re supernice. They’re the sweetest married couple you are ever likely to meet. They’re ridiculously talented. They're into local manufacture in a BIG way. And they’re rather good looking too. It’s all a bit much and shouldn’t be allowed really.
When I first interviewed Daniel and Emma back in May last year, they were on the cusp of MAJOR INTERNATIONAL FAME. These days their star is well and truly on the rise! Everything they do seems to turn to gold (or, in some cases, super reflective lacquered brass). They've just got that understated-with-a-touch-of-kooky aesthetic so perfectly down pat - and I'm not the only one who thinks so!
Daniel and Emma were recently awarded the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award for 2010 for their brilliant ‘Solids’ range! The exhibition of all finalists actually opens THIS THURSDAY EVENING in Sydney! It is being held in conjunction with Top3 By Design near the Top3 store at Westfield Bondi Junction. Do pop along and support this wonderful showcase of local design talent if you are in Sydney! You will get to meet all the designers, including Daniel and Emma... and I am guessing there will also be some Bombay Sapphire-infused cocktails on offer!
Winning the prestigious Bombay Sapphire award has enabled Daniel and Emma to travel to Milan next month to launch their newest designs at the Milan Furniture Fair. Ooh la la you will have to wait until Friday to see the new range in all its glory - it is so hot off the press it's not even on their website yet!! But take it from me, you will want to own EVERY SINGLE PIECE. I sure do. (there is a sneaky peek over there in the left hand column, just to whet your appetite!)
As if all this design excellence isn't exciting ENOUGH, sweet Daniel and Emma have ALSO offered a very special giveaway for one lucky Design Files reader! Leave a comment on any one of their Guest Blog posts between now and Thursday, and you will be in the running to win your favourite piece from their fabulous D.E range. Agghhh! Brilliant!
