Today we welcome one of the grooviest and glamorous gals in Melbourne to grace the pages of our Guest Blog- the delightful Pilgrim Lee! You will probably remember Pilgrim from her interview and super rad house tour from last year and this week she is sharing her experience at this years Alt Design Summit. It's pure amazingness! - Jenny x
Hello design file-ers! My name is Pilgrim, I am the creator of Draw! Pilgrim, and I also write a blog about my life, work and inspirations. A couple of weeks ago I attended the Altitude Design Summit, a conference for design bloggers, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The first 'alt' summit was held last year, and hearing my friends rave about it convinced me I needed to be there in 2011. As luck would have it my partner was headed to the states for a convention just the week before. Over the next few days I'll share my experiences of the three-day conference and some of the takeaway points from the many infolicious panels. Whether you're a big-shot blogger or just starting out I think you'll want to stick around because there was something for all levels. Let's ease into the week with how I got to Salt Lake City.
I spent flight from San Francisco to Salt Lake City alternating between pressing my nose to the window in hope of snow capped peaks, and giggling to myself at the crazy products in the SkyMall catalog.
I checked in to the Grand America hotel where the summit is hosted. Epic luxury. I jumped on the bed and made a quilt angel to celebrate alone time after a week and a half of family hotel life. The bathroom was so big I couldn't fit it all into a photo - or my suitcase.
I missed out on the 'dinner with' sponsored dinners but I was happy to catch up with friends Alex and Dottie from modern kiddo. We talked a whole year's worth of talk, grabbed room service BLATS (bacon lettuce, avocado and tomato sandwich)! and relaxed to some sixties Italian lounge music I had thoughtfully provided for emergency cocktail parties!
After lots and lots of talking with Alix and Dottie I headed to bed - getting many many many static electric shocks from the metal lunchbox of sponsor goodies on the way to my room. The high price of freebies. Never has such a fancy hotel heard so much swearing at door knobs.
See you back here tomorrow to share the first round of panels.
