We’re starting to cotton on to a trend in the stories we feature each week. Despite our best efforts to put design and craftsmanship front and centre, it’s peoples’ pets that often steal the show! It seems design appreciation and pet-love often go hand in hand… which goes some way to explain today’s discovery.

Family-owned furniture company Hub have been working with ceramicist Bruce Rowe’s of Anchor Ceramics to create a beautiful, handcrafted pet bowl for the distinguished pooches out there! Their exclusive range of smooth stoneware clay pet bowls come in four sizes, as well as three shades – light grey, mid grey and satin charcoal.

‘Three satin glazes have been specifically developed and tested in the studio for the range’ details Bruce, who throws each stoneware bowl by hand, and turns it on the wheel, before glazing and firing twice. ‘The design places high value on the human-animal connection; these pet bowls are a pleasure to touch, high quality, functional and robust enough for daily use,’ adds the ceramicist.

To launch the range Hub and Anchor Ceramics rounded up some friends/clients and their pets at Bruce’s Reservoir studio, including Mikala James of Loom Towels, Tom Lillecrapp of Tom + Captain,Antoine Reymond of L’Hotel Gitan, Shannon Peach of Milieu, and David Flack of Flack Studio! So far, their respective furry family members: Boston the German Short-haired Pointer Cross, Heide the Weimaraner, Captain, also a Weimaraner, and Frank and Alfred the Spoodles have provided rave reviews!

The Pet Bowl range is now available in-store at Hub ,63 Exhibition Street, Melbourne, along with the new Anchor Ceramics range of sculpted stoneware ceramic wall hooks.

P.S. We will be taking every opportunity to find out more about David Flack’s adorable Spoodles (whilst also racking his brain on how-to establish a super successful design studio) in our TDF Talk at Open House next week.
