Basil Bangs · Rain Collection

Since 2010, Basil Bangs has been making excellent beach umbrellas, but this winter they’re switching things up, with their new rain collection.

The first Basil Bangs rain collection includes collaborations with local artists Lucas Grogan and Louise Jones, who have each created vibrant custom designs. Winter suddenly feels a little brighter!

Basil Bangs is a shady company, literally. They are in the umbrella making business, and have perfected the art of throwing shade. Since 2010, Basil Bangs has been keeping Australians sheltered from the sun with their range of outdoor umbrellas and accessories for the home and the beach. This winter, though, they’re shaking things up, with the addition of a stylish new range of rain umbrellas.

Mike Durante and Krista Huebner are the Sydney based husband and wife team behind Basil Bangs. For the last six months they have been designing, prototyping and manufacturing their ideal rain umbrella. The ‘Caddy’ and the ‘Maple’ are the resulting designs.

Taking cues from Japanese production design, everything in Basil Bangs’ new rain collection has been carefully considered, from the shape of the covering, to the strong but lightweight handle. ‘We wanted something that felt balanced and comfortable in your hand, and something that is a true accessory that you definitely won’t leave behind at your local cafe!’ mentions Krista.

For their first collection, Basil Bangs has paired with local artists Lucas Grogan and Louise Jones to create two custom designs. ‘We love the idea of bringing great art outdoors’ explains Krista. ‘Who doesn’t want beautiful artwork brightening the dreariest of grey days?’

The busy couple are currently finalising their summer range, and will launch new prints and designs at Life Instyle in August. In the meantime, Krista says they’re looking forward to seeing their new rain umbrellas ‘dominating the sidelines at Saturday sports fields, and cruising the CBD on rainy days.’
