Top Ten Australian Homes of 2015 · Lynda Gardener and Mark Smith

Lynda Gardener is a woman with infinite style. Just one glimpse of her beautiful Instagram feed will prove that! She is a born and bred collector, and travels extensively seeking out antique furniture and homewares for her store Gardener & Marks, and various design and styling projects.

After years of admiring Lynda’s work, in September we were excited to step inside her Fitzroy home, and we were not disappointed!

Some people just intuitively know how to pull together a uniquely beautiful space, and one of those people is Melbourne stylist, decorator and retailer Lynda Gardener. Lynda lives in a converted warehouse in North Fitzroy with her partner Mark Smith, and beloved cocker spaniel Jack.

This converted warehouse in North Fitzroy has been Lynda’s home for over 15 years. Originally, it was a mattress factory. When Lynda first took it on, the building was derelict, with dumped cars piled up inside. The property has gone through significant renovations since to achieve its look and feel today, and last year Lynda was able to add to property and realise a dream project she’s had in the pipeline for a long time – The White Room. This self-contained unit at the rear of Lynda’s home has been converted into a beautiful guest room with its own ensuite and kitchen, and is available to rent.

Lynda is well known in Melbourne’s design, decoration and styling community for her beautiful little store, Gardener and Marks, which she co-owns with fellow stylist Amanda Henderson-Marks. Her signature look is a crisp neutral palette of mainly white and grey, with antique and rustic details layered to perfection. This distinctive aesthetic defines each of Lynda’s various design and decoration projects. Lynda has an incredible eye for uncovering the most exquisite vintage furniture and accessories. Her home is her living museum.
