Blairgowrie Home – Andy Brown and family

The beautiful beachy Blairgowrie home of Andy Brown and family.  All photos – Lucy Feagins.

Front door / entrance.  Such beautiful greenery through every window!

Kitchen – and a sneak peek at Andy’s new product range – Goldnbrown cushions in the foreground!  Rug in kitchen by Armadillo & Co.

I had the great pleasure recently of meeting two incredibly lovely, bubbly, and inspiring Melbourne ladies – Andy Brown and Sass Goldsworthy, who have joined forces to launch new beach and homewares brand Goldnbrown.  As two busy working Mums, both living on the Mornington Peninsula, Andy and Sass really have poured such incredible energy and passion into their fledgling business!   It was so lovely to hear this dynamic duo excitedly discuss their new project – that buzz is infectious, I tell ya!

Anyway, after meeting Andy and Sass and checking out at their gorgeous product range, I was convinced one of these stylish local ladies must have a beautiful creative home.  I found myself coaxing Andy B into a home tour just a week after our initial meeting… and I am so glad I did!  Just LOOK at this stunning space! Andy describes it as ‘a beach house in the tree tops’ – a real aussie bush meets tropical vibe!

Amazingly, Andy and husband Stephen and little Charlie (2 years old) have been here only a YEAR!  I know, I know.  Depressing isn’t it?  How do people achieve this level of domestic bliss in just one year!?  (and whilst launching a new business!? )  Well, just quietly, I am getting the distinct impression that Andy a bit of an overachiever.  She has squeezed SO much in to the last few years!

After 5 years living and working in Bali, Indonesia, Andy and Stephen returned to Melbourne a year ago with little Charlie in tow, and all guns firing!  They were intent on creating a little beach oasis of their own here in Melbourne.  I must say they’ve certainly succeeded – this beautiful family home, flanked by lush foliage on all sides, really does have that incredible sense of calm you feel on a beach holiday.  It’s the perfect nest for a couple who’ve spent many years living and working in Indonesia (This place really does feel a little bit like Bali in Blairgowrie!).

Andy and Stephen were lucky to inherit a functional yet beautifully designed beach house with great bones – soaring ceilings, windows overlooking the garden in every room and lots of natural light.  ‘Because we are surrounded by trees, we wanted to lighten up the inside of the house to really highlight the foliage and views to the garden’ says Andy.  ‘We basically removed the 70’s ‘orange feel’ by lime washing the floor boards and painting the inside ‘antique white’ (including the kitchen cupboards)’ she explains.  The pair are also planning on extending the 3 bedroom house this winter to accommodate weekend visitors and a new addition to the family!

Andy says without hesitation her favourite aspect of the home is  being up in the tree tops.   ‘It feels amazing in Summer but even better in Winter… and given I’m currently working from home with Goldnbrown, I get to really enjoy all aspects of the day’.

Of course the location ain’t bad either!  The home is just metres from the beach – Andy says ‘we love the beach and the wine region (Red / Hill Main Ridge) closeby – we feel like we are luckiest people in the world to live here and raise Charlie in such a special & calm place’.  Couldn’t have said it better myself.  A beautiful home for a beautiful, busy family!

Massive thanks to Andy for her generosity and for sharing her beautiful home with us today, and to Sass for a delicious lunch during my visit!

PS.  You’ll learn a little more about Goldnbrown TOMORROW, when we will launch a very special beach-inspired Australia Day giveaway !

Beautiful house. The amount of light is incredible. One thing, I’m pretty sure those woven rugs are by Armadillo & Co not Bholu – http://www.armadillo-co.com/collection/flower-collection/dandelion/natural/

Lovely home, my favourite is the tropical painting in the master bedroom or is it stretched fabric? :)

Wow, what a beautiful home. I hope to be successful enough to own something this well designed!

  • Lucy 3 years ago

OH yes Jackie you’re right! Bholu and Armadillo & Co. are sister companies, but I got mixed up! Will amend that now, thanks so much for the comment!

Very nice. Captures the holiday spirit without being indonesian or beach shack twee. Any idea where the dining table and chairs have come from please? I want them. Thanks!

  • Lucy 3 years ago

OH I think the dining chairs are Ikea?! link – http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/50162212/

This house is gorgeous! It’s a little piece of heaven.

Lovely! I wonder how they keep it clean with a 2yo though. If that is how things look after being lived in and through, then they get double points!

Thanks to Lucy for an amazing feature … we are so appreciative.

Thank you for all the kind comments. The bird print is stretched canvas from UBUD (Indonesia) and comes as a set of two (portrait and landscape). My mother in law bought the stunning turquoise jug from market imports for Christmas… The table is very old and my mum gave it to me so don’t know where it is from sorry. Thanks once again.. xxx Andy

What a beautiful house and garden………stunning photography too Lucy.

  • That is a beautifully inviting home… I think that’s pretty much how I’d imagine my beach home to look like too! I adore that vintage bar – superb! And the pom pom towels are a favourite.

Lucy I love your blog but seriously who has houses as immaculately tidy and curated as the ones you post? They are so styled, polished and white all the time. I would love to see you photograph some houses which are a bit more eclectic, cluttered, full of DIY decorations or just something a bit different. Maybe an artist, a young designer or something. Just something to mix it up a little. I mean they can still tidy up a bit of course but show me something more natural.

  • Lucy 3 years ago

OH my god so funny. ‘Show me a Real House’ – thankyou for your comment… glad to see you are loving the blog. With the houses, these are REAL houses! Promise! I arrive there and they look LIKE THIS! Having said that, I am pretty sure most people spend 48 hours cleaning their houses to within an inch of perfection before I come around with a camera!

And of course there are messy corners, but I don’t photograph the messy corners – there has to be a bit of smoke and mirrors!

    I think we do share a pretty broad variety though… I absolutely LOVE cluttered and eclectic too – remember artist Adriane Strampp’s house? ( http://thedesignfiles.net/2011/08/melbourne-home-adriane-strampp/ ) and young artist Kirra Jamison’s house ( http://thedesignfiles.net/2011/06/melbourne-home-kirra-jamison-and-dane-lovett-print-giveaway/ ) and Bbnnie and Neil’s house…? ( http://thedesignfiles.net/2011/12/melbourne-home-bonnie-and-neil-of-bonnie-and-neil/ ).

If you know any gorgeous cluttered / eclectic homes I am so there!

I am sitting here on this Australia day listening to the hottest 100 on JJJ, looking to this site once again for inspiration. We are in the Gold Coast Hinterland and we have been swamped with rain, but I am taking inspiration from my southern cousin. Floor to ceiling windows, the aggies along the walkway… love it. And love even more the energy and devotion of working mums. Have a great Australia Day!

Thanks Melissa for your lovely comment! Happy Australia day right back! x

  • Donna 3 years ago

Love the blog – always trawling her for inspiration. I was hoping you might know where the crystal chandelier in the master bedroom is from? It might just be THE perfect light for the entry hall in our 50’s home!

  • Donna 3 years ago

Sorry…always trawling *here* for inspiration. Much less creepy sounding! Damn iPad.

  • edita 3 years ago

    Fabulous things!

I love the colors, they would all fit so nicely with our new color scheme in our new house that we are moving to very soon… which will for a while be all nice, tidy and white before it becomes a real house :)

  • jo 3 years ago

that last photo of the garden – beautiful.

  • Andy Brown 3 years ago

Hi Donna. Sorry I don’t know where the crystal light is from. My husband took it out of an old house years ago that he was renovating. PS to “SHOW ME A REAL HOUSE” – Im afraid to admit that my ‘real house’ always looks like this.. sorry ….
