You may have seen these chairs very recently in publications including Elle Decoration UK, Living etc and also Inside Out magazine… they sure are popular! This iconic 1950′s Mexican chair is back in production, and is truly the most fabulous piece of outdoor furniture to be seen lounging on this summer!
The winner will receive a stunning turquoise chair (pictured below), and may select from the Acapulco or La Perla shape (La Perla has a slightly more upright seating position). Please note that the lucky winner must either collect their gorgeous chair from Mandy’s Fitzroy store OR arrange shipping if you are far away. (This prize does not cover shipping).

There’s a photograph somewhere of me sitting on one of those with my baby brother a million years ago when I was a child! Thinking about it now, my parents must have been funkier than I thought. I wonder where all those chairs went? I took ours for granted at the time but now I look at it and appreciate how incredibly simple it is, and how striking. I’d love one!

i spent two weeks in Mexico, hauling a vintage version of this chair around with me hoping to take it home. Sadly I had to leave it behind, as the airline could just not cope with transporting it – I left it with beautiful Lia and Allessandro – i think it ended up in a good home! I think the turquoise colour is beautiful, really gorgeous………and I’m very pleased it’s not the yellow one as I’m not that keen on yellow, even though I know its lovely and sunny, it’s just not my fav. Turquoise however is just perfect, the perfect summer hue.

My Nanna passed away recently and I miss her terribly. I was chatting with my Partner last Sunday about the memory I love most about my Nanna and it is this. Sitting in one of her beloved 1950′s Scoop Mexican Chairs, on their veranda in Qld, chatting about school and ballet and sucking on lemonade Popsicles together. So we decided that as soon as we move into our first home in November, the first thing we will do, is get is one of Nanna’s and my favourite chairs to have pride of place on our patio. This way, any time I miss her, I can sit with her and remember my favourite memory of her.

And so now begins… an ode to chairs.
I love chairs. I buy chairs when I already have chairs and have no more room. I buy chairs when I need other furniture instead. Come to think of it, I buy chairs when I should buy food. Money has been a little bit of an object – being that I have none. The chair buying is mostly in my head and heart. But I do occasionally give in the my love, and use my last remaining dollaroos and purchase something wunnerful!
Recently, and very reluctantly I gave up my credit card. This chair and all other chairs will likely not be coming home with me, anymore.
But I must say, it is a lovely one. And of the most beautiful design. Thank you, Lucy for sharing such a beauty! xx

These chairs are so refined and stylish. I have an Australian ” version” of a red and white wicker vintage one that I use in my tiny flat- its falling apart slowly…. I love the ability to use them in indoors and outdoors and how they are so light, they can so quickly be a part of a sitting circle.

They kinda look like upside down Mexican parasols, or big sun beams of colourful goodness!… I think I’d quite like to try sitting in an upside down parasol/sun beam chair!!!

Wow!! I gotta win this chair!! PICK MEEEE!! This is the chair I have been looking for ages!! It will go perfectly in the front yard of our vintage beach front apartment,’Houston’ that is rendered white, and has some crazy retro tiles!! We have the perfect fenced front yard with a big beautiful frangipani tree with lights in it, and black wrought iron ballustrating….. The chair would certainly be a statement piece for the yard…and would be a ‘show’ piece to all the foot traffic walking past!!
