Surrender Star III by Kirra Jamison, 2010, gouache and vinyl on paper, 76 x 56 cm, framed.
SUPER talented Melbourne painter Kirra Jamison has a small show of works on paper at Sydney's Firstdraft Gallery this month in an exhibition entitled Surrender Star. The show opened last night (sorry bit late!), and runs until September 26th.... OH MY I wish I could go, I LOVE Kirra's work so so much! The kaleidoscopic Surrender Star paintings are part of Kirra's ongoing series of super-detailed gouache, pen and vinyl paintings on paper. Each work is composed of intricate patterns that are repeated to create these dense graphic images.... apparently, this meditative and time consuming process is a daily ritual, especially in colder months, as Kirra has a compulsion to 'fill space and time with colour as a way of coping with the Melbourne winters'!   Don't worry Kirra, Summer is on the way! Surrender Star - works on paper by Kirra Jamison Firstdraft Gallery 116-118 Chalmers St. Surry Hills NSW Gallery open Wednesday to Sunday, 12.00pm - 6.00pm. ps) I interviewed Kirra a while back... pop over here if you missed it :)
