Bhalo is a new Melbourne-based fashion label with a focus on ethical production methods and the empowerment of disadvantaged people in developing countries. Bhalo uses hand-loomed, hand-dyed and hand-embroidered cotton made by women in NGO-run workshops in rural Bangladesh, giving them much needed employment and training, and providing them with simple life-changing services such as education/childcare for their children and basic healthcare.
Bhalo is the brainchild of young Melbourne designer Jess Priemus, who has teamed with Bangladeshi business partner Minhas Uddin Shimul to realise this ambitious creative vision! I am loving the simple, loose summery shapes and muted colours …wouldn’t that ‘Panels and Pockets’ dress be a gorgeous, versatile addition to any summer wardrobe!?
