Artist Prudence Caroline’s parents originally built this house in the 80s, and lived in it until Pru was eight years old. It spent many years as a rental after the family sold it, but when it came up for sale, longtime surf coast residents Prue and Damian were quick to pounce! Pru enthuses, ‘it was very satisfying to be able to restore it, modernise it and now hand it over to another owner to love.’ There aren’t many homes that come with that much love and layered history – and even less with such a STELLAR renovation!
Expert renovators (just look at their previous Torquay home!) Prue and Damian have completely transformed the old family home into a true coastal sanctuary. Earlier this year they pulled up the old, deteriorating slate floors and laid Malina terracotta tiles (which are old European roof tiles) from Gather Co – ‘an artwork underfoot’ says Pru. They also added the concrete bathroom extension (‘we call it the Turkish bath house’) with an external door – perfect for hosing down sandy feet, kids and dogs!
The spot has been perfect for the family, just minutes from the local beach, park and cafe but still an easy drive to Melbourne.
One of the major improvements the family made was to the garden – everything was stripped out, meaning every single plant is new! ‘I’d love to stay and see my favourites – the wisteria, hydrangeas and silver birch they planted – and hope the new owners will enjoy watching the garden bloom!’ says Prue.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime kinda beach buy. For inquiries and further details, explore the home here!
