Nic Dowse is a bit of an enigma. An architect by trade, Nic is best known for Honey Fingers – an urban beekeeping collective he founded over a decade ago that produces low intervention, bee-friendly, small batch, hand crafted, single-source honey, and provides education on beekeeping. The divine design of the hive is what first drew Nic to bees, and Honey Fingers regularly collaborates with local artists and creatives to explore the philosophical relationship between the design of both the human and animal worlds.

Australian porcelain company Mud is the latest creative collaborator of Honey Fingers. Waste pieces of porcelain from their studio have been repurposed into sculptures by Nic and his bees, who have built honeycomb in between cracks and voids of the porcelain fragments. These have been photographed by Phillip Huynh and will be exhibited in an event held in Fitzroy, Melbourne later this month. Mud will be hosting an in conversation event between Nic and artist Stanislava Pinchuk to discuss the magic and art of beekeeping. Over wine cheese and yes – honey!
