Looking for a place to flex those artistic muscles? The Art Room in Footscray is a multidisciplinary art school that encourages visitors to ‘fall in love with the creative process.’ The studio offers classes for all skill levels, ranging from hands-on, practical activities such as ‘casual’ life drawing (every Wednesday and Saturday) and pastel classes to theory-based discussions.

‘What I Wish I Learned At Art School’ is exactly what it sounds like – a workshop series that breaks down what it actually takes to make it as an artist. The series begins with ‘The Nuts and Bolts of Being an Artist’, a class hosted by professional artists who will cover essential knowledge like writing an artist statement, assembling an artist CV and documenting/cataloguing work. Some of the other topics in the ongoing series include grant writing, crowdfunding, taxation for artists and how to hold a successful exhibition.

All very important skills… why don’t they teach you this stuff at art school?!
