You may have noticed that we’re a pretty tight knit crew over here at TDF. We love creating things together so much that two of our own, Sasha Aarons and Sasha Gattermayr (aka Studio Sasha) have taken their working relationship out of the office and poured it into a project of their own – an exciting new biannual food magazine, Tart.

Comprising 200 pages of interviews, essays, recipes, art, photography, poetry, playlists and articles, Tart is an emotive reflection on taste, cuisine and memory. It’s about food with feelings, from a wide range of different perspectives.

Issue One contains an essay by Brodie Lancaster on the loneliness of cooking for one in lockdown, poetry by Wiradjuri writer and creative Jazz Money, an interview with Hana Assafiri on hospitality and social justice, an evocative piece of memoir about Lebanon from a chef and a writer from Free to Feed, a reflection on staff meals by Rosheen Kaul, a conversation between Lee Tran Lam and Yvonne C. Lam about racial diversity in Australian food media, an interview with cover artist Emma Creasey on painting flavour, photography by Annika Kafcaloudis, 30+ recipes from local chefs (including Ellie Bouhadana, Dom Gattermayr of Florian, and Peaches), plus more.

Pre-orders are now open for the beautiful 200 page publication, and copies will be shipped in late summer 2022. They’ve also collaborated with cover artist Emma Creasey on a series of fine art prints of Tart’s stunning original cover artwork, A Seat At The Table, which will only be available for a limited time.

Sasha A and Sasha G (Tart’s art director and editor respectively) have been working so hard on nights, weekends and lunch breaks to bring this special publication to life. We might be biased, but we reckon this is the food magazine that Melbourne is missing….and we COULD NOT be more proud of our girls!
