Local and international experts in design come together for The Sydney Design Festival, a 10-day program packed with exciting events exploring this year’s festival theme, Accessing Design. Featuring 138 events, the program spans tours, workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions, markets, open studios podcasts, keynote presentations, installations, and symposiums.

One of Australia’s most popular porcelain brands, Mud Australia, will open the doors to their Marrickville studio this Wednesday night, inviting their international network of creatives to contribute to a group exhibition. Mud founder Shelley Simpson will also speak on her perspective on the Australian design industry since starting the business from her garage in 1994.

Taking place at Powerhouse Museum, The Ideal Home: Art and Design runs the entirety of the festival. The exhibition explores Australian experiences of home over the past century, comparing physical elements like design and architecture alongside social issues such as homelessness and housing affordability.

A pop-up cinema screening Modernist films will take place at the Rose Seidler House, one of Sydney’s most architecturally significant buildings, for Seidler Screenings: Architecture, Film, and Music. Presented by Sydney Living Museums, visitors have the rare chance to see inside this mid-century masterpiece led by expert guides, culminating in the Sydney premiere of a new film about Modernist architecture, Columbus.
