Aptly named for the welcome change in seasons, ‘Springtime’ is back for its second year at RVCA Corner Gallery. Curated by artist Melissa Grisancich, ‘Springtime’ features an all-lady lineup – 18 of them in fact – who were given the freedom to make and exhibit the pieces they are most excited about creating within their chosen medium.

Curator, artist and all-time legend Melissa explains, ‘the reason for the show to be all female was quite simple: I wanted more walls for us to show our work. I want young women to come in and feel welcome, inspired and encouraged to do their own thing. Whether that’s to make art, zines, music – anything that ignites creativity.’ Melissa is a woman true to her word! Working with a combination of seasoned and first-time exhibitors for ‘Springtime’, her aim was to open up the doors to all levels of experience.

Hailing from a number of number of different locations near and far such as Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Japan and Denmark, artist on board include TDF faves Beci Orpin, Esther Olsson, Ellie King, Alice Oehr, Claire Johnson (and the list goes ON). The range of mediums on display are suitably varied, spanning paintings, ceramics, collage, sculpture, needlecraft and print.

With the inspiration to celebrate those who came before and those who will come after, Melissa’s curation and all-female lineup encourage a sense of community in the artworks and also the environment. This one goes out to all the ladies!
