The South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival of Visual Art begins on Tuesday, and runs throughout August. This year it will feature a record-breaking 6,282 artists in 660 free exhibitions across Adelaide and surrounding regions, making it Australia’s biggest community-based visual arts event.

The state-wide showcase – from painting, sculpture and jewellery to video, multimedia and more – seeks to promote and celebrate the many talented visual artists in the region, and prides itself on being inclusive of artists at myriad levels and working across any medium.

Established names include Chris Orchard, Catherine Truman, Trent Parke and Narelle Autio, Gerry Wedd, Sera Waters, Chris De Rosa, Julia McInerney, Michelle Nikou, Sally Smart, Robert Hannaford, and David Dridan.

Piquing our interest from the program are the Sala Parlour; sculpture throughout the gardens at Government House; the 40-year anniversary of ‘The Women’s Show’ (historically one of the largest Australia-wide exhibitions of women’s art) through the FRAN Fest program; as well as the huge variety of art tours and forums planned.
