This year marks 100 years since the birth of one of Australia’s most prolific thinkers, modernist architect and author Robin Boyd. To remember the incredible contributions Robin made to the way our nation lives, Australia Post has released a commemorative stamp featuring his iconic family home. Designed in 1957, the heritage-listed Walsh Street House in South Yarra is a defining Robin Boyd house, reflecting the influential architect’s philosophy for living.

‘Growing up I was conscious of Robin’s legacy as an architect, educator and social critic; however it was always important that we were aware of his role as a father and husband – stories were mostly private recollections of Robin’s role within the family more than as a public figure (although stories of the dinner parties at Walsh Street and the characters that attended were always wonderfully entertaining!),’ recalls Amy Boyd, Robin’s granddaughter and a member of the Robin Boyd Foundation Board, ‘The house epitomises many of his architectural principles – and is today home of the Robin Boyd Foundation, and a place to continue and celebrate his legacy.’

Dust off those stamp collections people – this one’s a must-have!

The Robin Boyd 1919-71 commemorative stamp is available from February 12th at participating Australia Post Offices, via mail order on 1800 331 794 and online at auspost.com.au/stamps
