There is hardly a more prominent figure in Australia’s architectural history than Robin Boyd. As an early pioneer of the modernist movement, Boyd-designed buildings are revered. One such iconic house in the Walsh Street House in Melbourne’s South Yarra, the family home designed by Boyd for his own wife and children that still looks pretty much exactly as it did in the 50s! To raise funds to ensure the preservation and protection of this historic home, The Robin Boyd Foundation have recently announced The Boyd Circle, a program that brings together some of Australia’s leading minds in architecture and design.

With the intention to educate the public on the significance of design, The Boyd Circle will feature a program of talks, open days and interactive events that will encourage inclusive public discourse and active participation. Boyd Circle members will contribute a tax-deductible donation per annum to be part of the program.

Purchased in 2005 by the volunteer-run Robin Boyd Foundation, using 100% borrowed funds, the proceeds from these events will contribute to paying off the mortgage on the Walsh Street House.

The inaugural members of The Boyd Circle are industry leaders within their own right, and include Astrid Jenkins, Mauro Barraco, Mel Bright, Matt Gibson, Patrick Kennedy, Hamish Lyon, Rob McBride, Rachel Nolan, Debbie Ryan, John Wardle and Louise Wright.
