Hands up who’s checked their Instagram feed more than five times today? Two hands up if it’s more than 10? There’s no doubt that we’re addicted to the infinite scroll; the subconscious part of us that knows there will be something new to be consumed, then disposed of. Pip Spiro works against this over-saturation of information in her new show, All Her Glory, opening this Friday in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. ‘Ultimately, I am striving to make art that serves as respite, a reprieve,’ she explains of her work.

Pip features elements of nature in her detailed suite of watercolour and gauche works. Unconventional posies of seashells, fruit and flowers are centred on generous sheets of cotton rag paper in such realistic splendour that you almost want to reach forward and feel the texture of the gnarled shells, the waxy surface of pastel anthuriums and the firm plumpness of wine-coloured grapes. Maybe don’t touch the art though – that’s generally frowned upon!
