After the winning design was announced in earlier this year, the NGV Architecture Commission from Melbourne architecture practice MUIR and landscape architecture studio OPENWORK was unveiled today!

A zigzag of canyon-like passageways for visitors to interact with and explore, Doubleground takes inspiration from the iconic NGV building, designed by Sir Roy Grounds. References to the triangular patterns of the NGVs facade, as well as the glass wall in the Great Hall are drawn from MUIR firm director Amy Muir childhood memories of visiting the NGV. This winning fusion with landscape architects OPENWORK encourages an integrated relationship between architecture landscape and civic space.

The temporary, interactive structure will play host to visitors to NGV’s Grollo Equiset Garden for the summer season and will be open to the public until April 2019
