This year’s Melbourne Design Week program is full of impressive, weird, and wonderful creative collaborations from near and far. But this showcase from Adelaide-based art organisation JamFactory is perhaps one of the most surprising.
Fortified sees nine of JamFactory’s artists and designers team up with some of the Barossa Valley’s best food producers, chefs and winemakers for an innovative collection of objects that find a link between their distinctly different processes.
The perfect pairings include the likes of glass artist Alexandra Hirst and Seppeltsfield Road Distillers owners Jon and Nicole Durdin, who created a beautiful installation of 26 hand-etched glass forms – depicting the botanical ingredients which make up their House Gin.
Sustainable winemakers Dave Geyer and Koen Janssens (behind Yetti & the Kokonut) worked alongside ceramicist Alison Smiles for an array of flasks and beakers, while furniture designer Matt Pearson and bakers Rebecca Tucker and Martin Ritzmann of Mehl Sourdough explored their shared understanding of grain in a sculpture that resembles a load of bread!
The exhibition celebrates and blends the unique outputs of both the rolling hills of the Barossa region and South Australia’s capital city. See it all at the RMIT Design Hub this week!
