Melbourne’s Art Trams are officially on the move! The annual project is a revival of an art initiative that took place in Melbourne between 1987 – 1993, where trams are transformed into moving canvases sporting the work of local artists, brightening Melbournian’s everyday commute.

As part of the Melbourne Festival and the Melbourne Art Trams initiative, launched by Creative Victoria and Public Transport Victoria in collaboration with Yarra Trams, the first art tram on the tracks is by Victorian artist and graphic designer Bushra Hasan. Bushra’s bright, joyful piece ‘Tramjatra’ is inspired by popular Indian street and tribal art, and the unique friendship between the tram-loving communities of Kolkata in India and Melbourne.

A total of eight trams will be transformed into works of art by Emma Anna, Josh Muir, Justine McAllister, Matthew Clarke, Oliver Hutchinson, Robert Owen and the students and parents of St. Albans Heights Primary School and Community Hub.

The trams will be adorned until April 2018, so keep your eyes peeled to spot them all!
