The Art Book Fair is a Melbourne Design Week stalwart fan favourite. Every year, hordes congregate in the NGV’s stained glass atrium to peruse books, magazines and zines from over 100 small, independent and mainstream presses. This year, its public event program consists of more than 40 lectures, workshops and performances!

For its sixth iteration, the Melbourne Art Book Fair’s public program will host events by visiting leading thinkers from Amsterdam-based art and design collective Metahaven and the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design in Moscow. Highlights include The New Normal: The City as Synthetic Cinema symposium which explores how cinema informs the fabric of a city; friendship speed dating from local creative collective Ladies of Leisure; and publications designed by artificial intelligence at The Library of Nonhuman Books.

The NGV is the largest art and design publisher in the southern hemisphere, so it’s no surprise the Art Book Fair is such a key event for thinkers, writers and publishers during Melbourne Design Week. Pick up one-of-a-kind, handmade zines, a limited-run exhibition imprint and listen to live Pirate Radio broadcasts from local publishing and sound collectives like Liquid Architecture, Field Theory and The Good Copy! It’s all happening.

Melbourne Art Book Fair will run at NGV International from 13th-15th March. You can browse the public program here.
