Collage making provides a fun and relatively accessible entry point to producing art, and there’s no better person to learn the ropes from than Maximillian Malone!

Max first started running his ‘Collage Club’ classes in the UK as a collaborative art social/alternative to pub trivia with the aim of ‘sticking paper and people together.’ To market the classes in their early days, Max would hang posters around the neighbourhood with the following poem:

‘Collage Club
Collaborative art,
With beer and glue,
Changing old print,
Into something new.’

Now living in Melbourne, Max is again seeking a creative and social occasion to balance out his often solitary working days. These new workshops are being held in a semi-converted, plant-filled mechanics warehouse where Max currently works alongside other local talents. Students will explore several collage styles in these workshops, using both hands-on and digital editing techniques, and cutouts from Max’s own archives.

‘Overall I’m hoping they’ll be able to walk away with a rejuvenated sense of creativity, a coupe of physical artworks to take home, along with being highly caffeinated, filled with snacks, and maybe even a new friendship or two,’ Max says.

You can find out more about Max’s art practice from our visit to his studio earlier in the year!

This workshop is part of the Craft Victoria’s 2019 Craft Cubed Festival. See here to view the full program.
