The Mangkaja Arts Resource Agency in Western Australia is one of Australia’s most remote art centres, and the artists are renown for their bold use of colour and images of country. The Fitzroy Crossing artists collective have spent the past two years working with Gorman to develop the stunning limited-edition fashion collection, Mangkaja x Gorman.

The collaboration is Gorman’s first with Indigenous artists, and the Copyright Agency negotiated a ‘national benchmark in fashion licensing rights for the adaptation of the Mangkaja artists’ works.’ Belinda Cook, manager of Mangkaja Arts Centre explains that the artists are ‘masters in their field of visual arts, and are excited to partner with leaders in the fashion and design fields.’

The clothing range features the work of senior artists: Ngarralja Tommy May, Sonia Kurarra, Daisy Japulija, Nada Tigila Rawlins and Lisa Uhl. To share the collaboration, French portrait photographer  Charles Freger flew to Fitzroy Crossing to capture the campaign with two models, including local Shaniqua Shaw of Jira Models who represent First Peoples of Australia.

The collection launches at the MCA in NSW on the 1st August, and at Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair on 7th August. For those keen to get their hands on this incredible collection, Mangkaja x Gorman will be available in store and online from the August 2nd. Gorman will donate funds from this collection to youth programs and further youth development through Mangkaja Art Centre, to the youth of Fitzroy Valley, WA.
