As part of Sydney Festival, renowned Berlin-based artist Katharina Grosse has created a huge, site-specific installation at Carriageworks in Sydney. No seriously, it is MASSIVE. Transforming the vacuous space into a monumental explosion of kaleidoscopic colour and texture, ‘The Horse Trotted Another Couple of Meters, Then it Stopped’ sees over 8,000sqm of fabric woven, draped and hung through the existing architecture of Sydney’s iconic art space.

The immersive work is designed to be interacted with – visitors can wander around and explore the alternate universe of Grosse’s epic canvas. ‘I was interested in taking this vast surface and shrinking it by folding, or actually, hiding the entirety of what’s there,’ the artist explains of the relationship between her work and the Carriageworks space.
