This Saturday and Sunday, Open Gardens Victoria invites visitors into the vast yet tranquil garden of Kate Herd.

An artist, garden designer and author of the book Native, Kate has thoughtfully curated a bountiful selection of unusual plants upon her 2.4-hectare property.

Featuring a grand display of colour and texture and shapes, ‘View Street Garden’ slopes down to a billabong meeting the Yarra River. Smooth sandy paths lined by luscious greenery wind their way through the grounds leading to a wood paved open-air amphitheater, which is often used by the community for music and events.

Experimental and abundant with native Australian flora, it’s hard to believe this garden is on a residential property in suburban Alphington!  Visitors are encouraged to stay and enjoy the beautiful surrounds – bring your picnic basket!
