Often it feels like we lose so many of our creatives to the twinkling lights of overseas cities. It’s not as often that they come back to share what they’ve been dreaming of on the other side of the equator!

Born in Melbourne, trained at Central Saint Martins in London and based in New York for the last five years, artist Kate Carnegie returns to her hometown to present WOMAN, her third solo show, at a one-night-only event this Thursday in Clifton Hill.

Kate illuminates her canvas with lashings of colours in bold palettes, coaxing out somewhat abstract figures of the women she portraits in this show. As the title suggests, WOMAN centers female form and experience. With works broken into three distinct parts, her subjects are empowered women from varied ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities.

Working internationally across mediums including fashion design and styling, photography and creative direction, Kate is a multi-faceted creative. Her unique combination of intellect paired with extravagance has resulted in an aesthetic across all her endeavors that is simultaneously wild yet refined, awash with thoughtful details.
