One of Australia’s oldest independent public art galleries is giving young buyers and seasoned collectors alike the ultimate chance to secure their next piece of contemporary art.

The Institute of Modern Art Brisbane (IMA) is gearing up for its annual fundraising gala filled with glamour, live entertainment, and an online auction of art from some of Australia’s best contemporary artists.

This year’s benefit auction line-up spans everything from paintings and sculptures to photography. Some of our top picks include Kyra Mancktelow’s ink impression No Perception, designer Anna Varendorff sculptural stainless-steel vase and a beautifully warm painting by Meriam and Yupungathi artist Chris Bassi – who you might recognise from his recent feature here on TDF!

Emerging Brisbane artist Visaya Hoffie explores the boundaries of old-school art with her playful collaged canvas, Rich in cryptocurrency, while six of renown Waanyi artist Gordon Hookey’s Really Cool Deadly Roos are also up for grabs.

The best part is you can bid online from anywhere nation-wide or attend the gala yourself to revel in the artworks in person, complete with food and drink in hand.

Reserve prices start from just $400 to $10,000. And all funds raised from the 2022 Gala and Benefit Auction go towards helping the IMA continue to support local artists and their projects.

The IMA has been a hub of Brisbane’s contemporary art world, having hosted significant and provocative exhibitions free to the public since 1975. That’s why the annual event is all in the spirit of breaking down the traditional social, cultural and financial barriers of the art world – for the better.

Bidding is open for the 2022 IMA Benefit Auction online now until 10pm Friday 12 August.
