Daydreaming of a holiday is pretty much all any of us can do right now to stop the restless at-home jitters, but our own imaginative efforts are a pale imitation of the real thing. Luckily, Sydney gallery Saint Cloche has launched a new online viewing room and a vacation-themed group show to satisfy that wanderlust.

Holiday Dreaming explores our collective experience of getaways, with a generous serve of the colour we all need right now! The multidisciplinary works by Bettina Wilner-Browne, Carissa Karamarko, Claudia ‘Pops’ Bagnall, Daniel McLellan, Melinda Marshman, Milly Dent and Nic Goodger capture the essence of destination, the thrill of escape and the finitude of exit. While there are no depictions of sunsets and shorelines or desert islands, the pieces are focused instead of finding escape within the day-to-day, and capturing the atmosphere and feelings we associate with going somewhere new.

‘Now more than ever, I felt the need to provide a portal for transformation and healing through art,’ says curator Kitty Clark, touching on the way social distancing and isolation has put an immediate halt to even the tiniest departures. ‘Holiday Dreaming is not solely about escapism – it’s about awakening our collective imagination to envision the dawning of a better day.
