After an up-and-down year of closures and re-openings for galleries around the country, Heide Museum of Modern Art is kicking 2021 off with a bang!

The institution’s inaugural Summer Festival brings together a variety of music and culture events across the remaining summer weekends. With the inclusion of world class saxophonist Solomon Sisay (courtesy of Heide’s partnership with Melbourne International Jazz Festival), Taunwurrung man and storyteller Uncle Larry Walsh, and traditional Balkan brass troupe Opa! Bato – the fully outdoor program spans an exciting and diverse range of performers and mediums.

Heide’s partnership with Songlines Music Aboriginal Corporation sees an exceptional lineup of local Indigenous performers included, from the all-female Wurundjeri dance group, Djirri Djirri, to soul band The Deans, and singer Emma Donovan.

The Summer Festival will also see a continuation of the museum’s partnership with Midsumma Festival by hosting a social dance event for senior members of the local LGBTQIA+ community, All The Queen’s Men; and a collaboration between contemporary classical musicians Forest Collective and musician and Gubbi Gubbi man, Diimpa.
