Melbourne’s City of Stonnington are embracing the chillier, darker winter season by illuminating some of their most iconic venues, public parks and gardens with glowing neon art installations and architectural projections.

Now in its fourth year, the Glow Winter Arts Festival begins tomorrow night with the unveiling of an array of newly commissioned artworks. Encounter luminous butterflies on Stonnington’s lamp posts in ‘Advice from a Butterfly’ by Skunk Control, or find glowing giant flowers and colossal mushrooms in Central Park aka ‘Alice’s Garden’ by Melbourne-based firm, Mandylights.

Projection artists Nick Azidis and Rose Staff are set to transform historic buildings with ‘Wonderlight’, and The Centre (for) Projection Art will also be lighting up the nooks and crannies of Greville Street. Meanwhile, Sowinski/Cullen and Associates will install a host of interactive, illuminated objects for ‘Untitled’, James Voller’s ‘Enchanted’ will shine an immersive light on familial places, and Carla O’Brien’s work, ‘Neon Glow’, will see giant  letters finding homes around the council.
