Last night, the 2019 Environmental Film Festival kicked off at Cinema Nova. As part of the exceptional program, tonight the Australian premiere of City Dreamers will be screening, followed by a discussion with a panel of industry experts. The Canadian film celebrates four groundbreaking female architects and landscape architects– Phyllis Lambert, Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, Denise Scott Brown, and Cornelia Oberlander – as they re-imaged urban design and development, long before this was popular. At the intersection of feminism and environmentalism, this inspiring film captures the groundbreaking urban advancements of these pioneering women.

Following the screening, a panel discussion will take place with a few of Melbourne’s own pioneering women of today. Writer and researcher Miriam McGarry (who we are SO lucky to have as a staff writer at TDF!), architect Clare Cousins, City of Melbourne’s Urban Strategy Manager Emma Appleton and Landscape Architect/3000acres board member Kate Dundas will reflect on the film, offering an understanding of just how important the work of these women has been, putting into context how it relates to our world today.

Tickets are still available to City Dreamers at the Environmental Film Festival – get them here!
