Garden Party is a group exhibition at BSIDE Gallery in Fitzroy, opening Wednesday, August 21st, that celebrates growing where you are planted! The emerging and established artists across mediums of illustration, textiles and ceramics have been selected by curator Esther Sandler

In gardening, companion planting is a strategy of growing plants together, with the idea that they assist each other by deterring pests, increasing growth, attracting bees, and enhancing flavours. Tomatoes and marigolds are a classic pair!

Garden Party captures some of this strategy, as the exhibition asks each artist to examine their relationships with plants in daily life, ‘exploring ideas such as growth, fragility, joy, dependence, disappointment, aversion, friendship and beyond’, explains Esther. The exhibition explores the human condition of seeking connection with nature – as well as featuring artists who have intersecting backgrounds.

The line-up is a star-studded affair, with plenty of familiar TDF faces involved in this verdant exhibition: Aaron Billings, Amanda Farncomb, Beci Orpin, Carolyn Hawkins, Cat Rabbit, Esther Sandler, Hilary Green, Lori Camarata, Lucinda Florence, Min Pin, Nina Elliott, Sarah Strickland and Tara Whalley.

Leave your secateurs at home, but pop along on Friday 23rd from 6-9pm for opening drinks at BSIDE Gallery.
