Eight years after purchasing the land for their South Melbourne home, interior architect Edwina Glenn and principal of Powell & Glenn Ed Glenn are seeking a new design challenge to sink their teeth into. While the impending move is bittersweet for the family, it provides the perfect opportunity for anyone seeking a large, contemporary home designed with love!

Some couples might laugh at the mere idea of working together, but this self-designed house is very much product of Edwina and Ed’s respectful relationship and complementary skills. It really is very easy. We know each other’s design language intimately from working on many previous projects together and we share the same passions for marble, terrazzo, artwork and lighting,’ Edwina says. Her favourite element of the home is the study where she enjoys sitting with a coffee and watching the dog walkers wander past. Ed, on the other hand, can most often be found in the garden watering the plants as the kids run in and out of their bedroom, or sitting by the firepit with a glass of wine in winter.

‘Ed’s architectural concept sketch barely changed from day dot. He knew it needed to be a U-shaped house facing north,’ says Edwina. ‘With young kids, I wanted to ensure we had a place for everything so that the house could still feel serene despite the chaos.’

The family have loved living in South Melbourne so much that they intend to remain in the area after selling. Edwina says, ‘Everything is in very close proximity…Nothing quite like being able to go to the beach straight after school pick up!’
