This month Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is running its epic DESIGN Canberra Festival. Having recently ventured up to the nation’s capital for a workshop at Canberra Centre and also the National Gallery of Australia for their upcoming Cartier 2018 exhibition announcement (add that one to the diaries), we have to admit we’re super impressed with the creative buzz engulfing the city.

Throughout November, over 150 events, exhibitions, talks, tours, activations, markets, collaborations, artist studios and open homes will be showcased, AND most of these events are free!

Naturally,  the inaugural national design writing conference ‘Object Subject’ piqued our interest. Alice Rawsthorn, the award-winning design critic columnist for the New York Times, Dana Tomic Hughes of Yellowtrace, and our fave Tim Ross will be speaking. There’s also the opportunity to tour iconic institutions and buildings, like the 1959 Shine Dome and the Australian Institute of Architects HQ!

DESIGN Canberra is the primary initiative of not-for-profit Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre, which supports artists, craft practitioners, designers and makers at every stage of their careers. These guys are doing great work, so if you can, head along and check out the festival, as well as a city that is itself a visionary design!
