Art centres in Central Australia produce some of the best and most important artworks in the country. These community-based enterprises are owned and governed by Aboriginal people to provide economic, social, and cultural benefits—and 25 of them are coming together for a special online shopping event.

The Desart Christmas Market is happening this weekend, hosted by the peak arts body for Central Australian Aboriginal arts and crafts centres, Desart.

A variety of artworks will be available to browse and directly purchase from the virtual marketplace, from works on canvas, to weavings, ceramics, textiles, prints, punu, and homewares from emerging and established artists.

Shop authentic and ethically-produced works and know you’re directly supporting artists, their families, and communities this Christmas.

Participating art centres in the Desart Christmas Market include Arlpwe Art & Culture Centre; Barkly Regional Arts; Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists; Hermannsburg Potters; Iltja Ntjarra Many Hands Art Centre; Ikuntji Artists; Keringke Arts;  Martumili Artists; Maruku Art & Craft; Minyma Kutjara Arts; Ninuku Arts; Papunya Tjupi Arts; Papulankutja Artists; Tangentyere Artists; Tapatjatjaka Art & Craft; Tjarlirli Art; Tjanpi Desert Weavers; Utopia Art Centre; Warlukurlangu Artists; Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi; Walkatajara Arts; and Warlayirti Artists.

Art centres are places of creativity and work to maintain and strengthen cultural practices. They support some of Australia’s leading contemporary painters and facilitate the passing of knowledge onto younger generations to keep their community’s future strong.

Don’t miss this online-only, two day event!
