When purchasing artwork by Indigenous artists, it’s important to do your research into who you’re buying from, and where your money is really going. Buying artworks directly from Aboriginal-owned community Art Centres is vital, and the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF) offers art-lovers the opportunity to visit over 70 Art Centres under the one roof!

Australia’s best and biggest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art event will take place over a massive three days in August this year. Following up its largest event in 2018 (with record attendance from interstate and international visitors), this epic festival will bring together more than 2,000 emerging and established artists from all around Australia, transforming Darwin into a thriving hub for art, culture, fashion, dance, music and food.

This year’s Fair celebrations will kick off with the much-loved ‘From Country to Couture’ fashion show. While Gorman and Western Australian-based Mangkaja Arts will launch an exciting new collaboration, and Tiwi owned and operated brand Bima Wear will celebrate their 50-year anniversary with a new collection. Other highlights include a sure-to-be-spectacular performance by former Bangarra Dance members Luke Currie-Richardson and Yolanda Lowatta, as well as a series of artist talks, workshops, and demonstrations.
