Are you an artist with an interest in creating thought-provoking, site-responsive public art? Read on!

As part of a large pandemic recovery scheme to boost Sydney’s inner-city life, funding from the NSW government has been allocated to create four public art projects that engage with the city’s past, present and future in bold and meaningful ways.

The City of Sydney is calling on creative thinkers, artists and multidisciplinary teams to submit proposals for temporary public artworks in laneways around its CBD. Projects with an emphasis on sustainability or those including Aboriginal stories, knowledge and heritage are encouraged. The successful proposals will be for artworks which are sensory and powerful, and engage the public as well as the space – from environmental art to soundscapes to augmented reality. Mural and street art can form a part of a larger work, but will not be accepted as the sole medium.

Rehabilitating shared spaces with art and empathy is the central mission of this project, and we couldn’t be more on board!

Expressions of interest must be completed via this online form and close at 10am on Monday, 16th November. A briefing for potential applicants will be held via Zoom at 11am on Friday, November 6th – which can be accessed here.
