Since its inception in 1987, Aesop has reigned supreme as Australia’s most revered contemporary brand. The skincare brand has achieved cult status thanks to its careful brand alignment with art and literature. Known for outstanding store interiors, as well as its ongoing artist collaborations, the most recent of these partnerships is a series of short films with Dutch multidisciplinary artist (and Lady Gaga collaborator!), Bart Hess.

‘For the films, I imagined the body as a canvas for sensations felt and information absorbed,’ explained Bart, ‘in each, the figures undergo some kind of transformation based on the attributes of the products.’

This latest film series, entitled Epistēmē, merges Bart’s evocative exploration of materials in relationship to the human body with Aesop’s holistic skincare philosophy, with multisensory elements imbued by Dutch sound designer Ricky van Broekhoven. Installed in the Myer Bourke Street windows, the project spans over 60 metres – the largest digital installation the iconic Melbourne storefront has ever seen.

Epistēmē can be viewed from the Myer Bourke Street, Melbourne windows. An adapted version will be on display at Myer Queen Street, Brisbane and Myer Market Street, Sydney.
