As part of the ground-breaking Blak Design Matters exhibition, Koorie Heritage Trust welcomes the Bábbarra Women’s Group from Arnhem Land for a very special one-day lino printing fabric workshop.

In this hands-on workshop, the Bábbarra women will demonstrate the process of hand-printing designs on fabric using a linocut pressing technique, where participants will leave with their very own design and print on a tote bag, tea towel, cushion cover or length of fabric!

Based in Arnhem Land, the Bábbarra Women’s Centre is led by women, for women, with a long history of making positive social impacts. Operating as an op-shop, a community laundromat and a textile-design space, the Centre offers support to women’s centres on remote homeland outstations in the region.

‘Working creatively at Bábbarra is a way for us to achieve financial independence, for our community and the next generations,’ a representative from Bábbarra Designs explains of the community enterprise. From their textile workshop space the women design and hand-print textiles that are sold both locally and internationally. Each unique piece tells the ancestral stories of their Arnhem Land country and cultures.
