Prolific interdisciplinary artist Reko Rennie opens his latest exhibition this Saturday at Station Gallery in South Yarra. Known for exploring his Aboriginal identity through contemporary mediums, this latest exhibition features both paintings and sculptures that draw upon the traditional practices of carving and inscription.

In Neo Geo II, Reko repositions the Neo Geo art movement of the 1980s that interrogated modern industrialism and consumerism, framing it within the context of his heritage as a Gamilaroi/Kamilaroi man.

The bright, graphic patterns emblematic of the Neo Geo movement are blended with the traditional iconography of Gamilaroi/Kamilaroi shields and diamond patterning, as well as a nod to the stylistic elements of graffiti art.

A must-see exhibition from one of Australia’s most important artists!
