The last time we saw graffiti artist Adnate he was suspended on the fifteenth story of the Wellington Street flats in Collingwood, working on the tallest mural in the Southern Hemisphere. Last night he was a little closer to the ground, painting a live mural at Awards Ceremony for the 2019 Dulux Colour Awards held in the NGV’s Great Hall.

When we featured Adnate way back September last year as the massive Collingwood mural was in progress, he cited Dulux Acrylic Weathershield paint as one of his all-time favourite materials. ‘It’s been my benchmark for eight years now and my go-to for acrylic paint,’ he said ‘it’s pretty electric when you work with it’.

Last night Adnate swapped the spray cans for a paintbrush, and while the ceremony was underway he hand painted a nine-meter mural using entirely Dulux Acrylic Weathershield paint. The face he painted was selected for ‘its impact, colour, and intensity’, he tells.

Some of the big winners from the awards ceremony last night include The Giraffe Learning Centre by Supercontext taking out the Grand Prix, and Kennedy Nolan’s Caroline House for the Residential Interior category. HUGE congrats to all the winners – see the full list here!
