Letter from the Editor

15th February, 2019

HELLO and welcome to another letter from me, Lucy!

Is it just me or is 2019 off to a RACING start!? Seriously, it’s only February and there is SO MUCH going on! I’m already slightly exhausted.

It’s taken me a few days to process one seriously amazing event I attended last week – the launch of David Jones‘ brand new homewares and fashion collections, at MONA in Hobart, Tasmania. Suffice to say, DJ’s really raised the bar with this epic two-day extravaganza, entitled ‘The Art Of Living‘.

A highlight for me was seeing Australian homewares and design brands really front-and-centre of this event. It was amazing to see the most beautiful new tableware developed exclusively in collaboration with Robert Gordon Australia (Australia’s oldest working pottery – and longtime TDF fave). This range of distinctive handcrafted plates and bowls is MADE IN MELBOURNE, people. I am seriously considering buying a whole set, it’s that beautiful.

Alongside this, DJs launched exquisite new cutlery and glassware in their private label range, with new products by Dinosaur Designs and Georg Jensen.

Props to the team at MONA, and creative geniuses Gloss Creative and Cecilia Fox for creating the most unbelievable visual feast: a dining table for 60 people, incorporating crystal clear Tassie ocean water, shells and seaweed (yes!), moss, soil and living plant life… It was a truly magical backdrop and made for one very memorable event.

A huge thank to DJs for hosting me, and for the ridiculously extravagant gifts I received, including Bose headphones, Samsonite luggage, a beautiful Australian-made blanket from Waverley Woollen Mills. and so much more. I’m still recovering!
